Leroy Chiao is an American engineer, entrepreneur, motivational speaker, engineering consultant, and former NASA astronaut. During his time with NASA, Dr. Chiao flew on three shuttle flights and was the commander of Expedition 10, where he lived on the International Space Station from October 13, 2004, to April 24, 2005. He is also a co-author and researcher for the Advanced Diagnostic Ultrasound in Microgravity Project.

As an expert on the aerospace industry, Dr. Chiao helps define Epiphan’s vision and strategic goals in a variety of fields, with a special focus on products and their applications in medicine and aerospace.

Scott A. Dulchavsky is a professor of surgery, molecular biology, and genetics at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. He is also the Roy D. McClure Chairman of Surgery and surgeon-in-chief at Detroit’s Henry Ford Hospital, and holds seats with several local and national medical professional associations.

As principal investigator in NASA’s bioastronautics division, Dr. Dulchavsky teaches ultrasound to astronaut and cosmonaut crews for medical emergencies aboard the International Space Station. On Earth, this work supports the on-site care of professional athletes, including those of the United States Olympic Committee and Winter Olympic Games. NASA also funded Dr. Dulchavsky’s work to establish microinvasive surgical techniques in zero gravity.

Past roles include assistant professor of surgery and director of surgical research at SUNY at Stony Brook in New York, attending surgeon at the Detroit Medical Center, and director of surgical intensive care and chief of surgery at Detroit Receiving Hospital. Dr. Dulchavsky is also author of over 100 peer-reviewed research articles and numerous textbook chapters.

While pursuing a Ph.D. in molecular biology and genetics at Wayne State University, Dr. Dulchavsky investigated the use of gene therapy to improve wound healing in disease states. He also holds an undergraduate degree in physiology from Michigan State University and attended the Wayne State University School of Medicine.

Ilan S. Rubinfeld is director of surgical critical care and an attending surgeon at Henry Ford Hospital specializing in trauma, surgical critical care, and acute care surgery. At Wayne State University, Dr. Rubinfeld is an assistant professor of surgery, associate program director of the surgical residency, and associate director of the surgical intensive care unit. He is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the College of Chest Physicians, and the College of Critical Care Medicine.

With medical IT as a key interest, Dr. Rubinfeld has contributed to a range of projects including a new ecommerce approach to the operations of an academic medical department, and NASA-sponsored research that produced award-winning educational software used on the International Space Station. He has also partnered with technology experts to develop medical education software as well as solutions for remote medical diagnosis, consultation, and education.

Dr. Rubinfeld’s research interests include remote guidance of ultrasound, remote guidance to improve patient safety in laparoscopic surgery, surgical outcomes, education outcomes, patient frailty, quality improvement, and performance excellence in medicine.

He holds three degrees from the University of Michigan, including an MBA from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business.

David was responsible for product marketing at Epiphan. Working closely with engineering, operations, applications, channel management, and support, David ensures Epiphan products and services continue to exceed customer expectations in a wide variety of user applications.
